Louisiana Traditions is a brand-new, audition-based Cajun and Zydeco youth ensemble for students in grades 6–12. Over a two-day immersive experience, students join Middle School and High School groups to play music, learn from seasoned teachers, and celebrate Louisiana’s rich musical traditions..
A collaboration with The Whirlybird Project and supported by Music to Life, this immersive two-day program lets students connect with peers, play traditional music, and help preserve South Louisiana’s unique musical heritage.
Participants will:
Play and perform Cajun and Zydeco music together.
Collaborate and create with fellow young musicians.
Explore culture through dance, art, and stories from professional musicians.
Learn from experienced teachers who celebrate students’ cultural roots.

Audition Process
1. Select Your Music
Choose two of your favorite Cajun, Zydeco, or Creole songs. Practice them and perform them for your audition.
Accordion / Fiddle: Play the melody and rhythm. Sing one verse of one song in French.
Guitar / Keyboard: Play your songs for 1 minute in a style that fits. Lead is optional.
Bass: Play your songs for 1 minute in a style that fits.
Drums: Play your songs for 1 minute in a style that fits.
2. Record Your Video
The Intro: State your name, age, instrument, and song title.
The Performance: Play one verse of each song (keep total video under 90 seconds).
The Setup: Your hands and instrument must be clearly visible. Record in a quiet space, and if playing along with a track, ensure your instrument is the loudest sound heard.
Pro-Tip: Use a separate speaker to play the YouTube track so your recording device captures both the music and your playing clearly in one take.
3. Register & Submit
Register & Pay: Complete the online form.
Get Your Link: Your upload link will appear on the payment confirmation screen and at the top of your parent’s confirmation email.
Deadline: All videos must be uploaded by March 26, 2026 (11:59 PM).
All fees support FÊTE in providing students and educators with the resources necessary to learn and promote Louisiana culture.
